Lake Duluti, located at the foot of Mount Meru on the south-eastern side, is only a 20-minute drive from the centre of Arusha – yet you’ll feel as though you’re in another world, where the stresses and strains of daily life just disappear.
Duluti is a volcanic crater lake, estimated to be about 700 metres deep and over a kilometre in diameter. More than 100 species of birds can be found here, and giant monitor lizards can often be seen basking on the rocks.
The forest that surrounds Lake Duluti is a peaceful, tranquil setting for a day’s walk, with enough shade to make it a pleasant climate even at the height of summer. It’s a diverse and engaging habitat, rich in plant, animal, bird and reptile species.
We offer half-day excursions to Lake Duluti, or a full day trip with a picnic lunch. Your tailor-made itinerary can include some or all of the following activities:
- Canoe trip around the lake with an experienced guide
- Forest walk around the entire crater (full day trip only)
- Shorter guided walk in the dense forest
- Taking time to relax with a drink and/or a picnic on the lake shore
- Coffee in the garden of a luxury lodge with a view over the lake
Please contact us to request a quotation for your Lake Duluti excursion, either on its own or combined with some of the other activities that you can enjoy on and around Mount Meru, such as waterfall walks, cultural programs, Arusha National Park safaris and (for experienced climbers) the trek to the summit.
